TrueNAS

An open-core, ZFS-based operating system for building network-attached storage servers.

Minimums are what the maker says it takes to boot, not what it takes to be useful. Plan on more of everything. TrueNAS SCALE and TrueNAS CORE have merged: the product is now simply branded 'TrueNAS' on the former SCALE (Debian/Linux) base. The vendor's docs hub lists a 'Migrating from CORE' guide and the current Software Status release schedule (checked 2026-09-21) only tracks 25.04 / 25.10 / 26 / 27, there is no separate CORE (FreeBSD) track any more, and the truenas.com nav labels CORE-era material 'TrueNAS Legacy'. Versions carry codenames (25.10 = 'Goldeye', 25.04 = 'Fangtooth'); 25.10.7 is the latest 'General'/'Mission Critical' maintenance build as of the check date, with 25.10.0 (Stable) originally released 2025-10-28. TrueNAS 26 is still in Beta (26-BETA.3) and not yet the recommended stable line.
